UL 508A control panels, built in Brookfield.
Gross Automation's panel shop designs, sources, certifies and builds industrial control panels in a 38,000 sq ft facility in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Every panel the shop builds goes through its UL 508A program.
What we build
We build panels. All kinds of panels, for all kinds of customers. A few of the kinds we build most often:
Custom control panels
PLC, HMI and relay-logic panels for machines and processes, designed to your requirement or built to your drawings.
Motor control
VFD and drive panels, soft-starter and starter panels, and motor control centers, from single panels to repeat line-ups.
Pump and lift-station panels
Simplex and duplex pump control panels and pump-station packages, a regular build for water and wastewater work.
Power distribution and generator panels
Distribution assemblies, generator source and alarm panels, UPS panels and 690 V panels.
Power-factor and harmonic-filter panels
Correction and filter panels, alongside the capacitors we supply. Power panels →
Build-to-print and OEM runs
Your design and, if you like, your parts; from a few panels to several dozen identical cabinets. Build-to-print →
We also modify enclosures, including cutouts and machining in NEMA 4X stainless steel and fiberglass, and help customers determine and document short-circuit current ratings (SCCR). UL 508A and SCCR, explained →
How the shop works
- UL 508A on every panel. Every panel the shop builds goes through its UL 508A program, and UL inspects the shop every quarter.
- Certified parts, certified panel. Panels generally start from UL-certified components and are assembled to UL 508A's construction requirements under the shop's program, so the finished panel carries its own certification and ratings.
- Drawings that match the panel. Schematics, layouts, bills of materials and as-built drawings come from our own engineering team.
- Quality system. ISO 9001:2015 certified by SGS (certificate US19/819943468), for all of our business operations. The certificate's scope: "The design and manufacture of electrical control panels including engineering services and the distribution of electrical components."
- UL and cUL. Panels are listed for the United States (UL 508A) and for Canada (CSA C22.2 No. 286), under UL File E239160.
Who we build for
- Plants that need a new panel, a replacement or a retrofit.
- Equipment builders who put our panels on machines and skids they sell to their own customers.
- Contractors and public-sector buyers, including municipal water and wastewater projects.
- Our own engineering team, for the control systems they design. Controls engineering →
Industries include water and wastewater, power and utilities, food and beverage, machine building, material handling, renewables, data centers, defense and government, and research labs.
What to send for a quote
- Drawings, or a description. Schematics if you have them; otherwise a description of what the panel has to control.
- The loads. Motors, drives, heaters and other equipment, with their ratings.
- The supply. Voltage, phase and the available fault current, if known; it sets the SCCR the panel needs.
- Where it will live. Indoors or out, wet or dusty, washdown, temperature, hazardous area.
- Brands and parts. Any required component brands, and any parts you will supply.
- Quantity and date. How many, and when you need them.
Missing some of it? Send what you have, and we will ask about the rest.
